The Lakeland Cycling Club Road Race League continued on Wednesday night last on the hilly Sin Finn circuit.
With two ascents of the Murley mountain this race was definitely one for the strongest riders. Foul weather and peak holiday times combined to reduce the entry and keep the groups small. In the end the race was won by one of the visiting riders, Ciaran Maguire (A2) from VC Glendale, but once again Kyle Fisher showed his improving form taking a strong second with Seamus McGovern placing third to complete the podium.
Some of Lakeland’s riders may have been suffering slightly after a sterling effort the night before in the Ulster 25 mile team TT, as Conor Sprice, Fergus McGirr and Nigel Foster put in a strong performance in Butlersbridge coming in with a time of 57.29.
And the hectic calendar didn’t finish there as the club was again involved on both Saturday and Sunday in the Mount Nugent and Boyne GP’s respectively. Whilst all the participating riders rode strongly in the Boyne GP, Mark McGirr, Seamus McGovern, Niall Murphy and Kyle Fisher missed the podium placings.
However, it was in the Mount Nugent event on the Saturday that Kyle Fisher got into a three man break with three laps to go and managed to stay away eventually taking a great second place, just being pipped in the sprint by promising young rider from Navan CC Sean Lenehan. A fantastic result for Kyle which edges him closer to an upgrade to A1.
