Captain Conrad Wheeler had a memorable Captain’s Day event at Castle Hume as he hosted a magnificent turnout of members and guests to the sun-drenched venue.
With the course in pristine condition and the Captain placing some very testing pin positions, and a stroke play format, it was always going to be an exciting day on the fairways.
Nine handicap golfer Johnny Woods has been playing some wonderful golf all year and, as fate would have it, he chose the biggest stage of the year to put on a very memorable and flawless display.
Finding the fairways with ease, the strength of his approach game was very evident as he put himself in the ideal spots to threaten the pins.
With the greens becoming quicker throughout the day, the putter was working exceptionally well to give Johnny a winning score of 66. A superb performance from the Castle Hume star.
In second place was Ryan Sharpe, who has certainly made a name for himself in the relatively short time that he has been playing competitive golf.
He will certainly be a name to look out for in the coming days.
Completing the podium was single handicap player Gary Coulter with a super score of 68.
In the Gross section, Frazer McLean came home with a stunning 76 and also picked up the Longest Drive of the day.
Congratulations to all the Captain’s Day winners, and thank you from all at Castle Hume to Conrad Wheeler on putting on such a memorable day.
In other event news, Paul Crawford delivered a winning score on countback to take the Manor House Hotel sponsored Stableford competition with 40 points.
Ben Brown claimed second spot on countback, also with 40 points, and completing the Podium was Mark Gilmurray – also with 40 points.
The Gross prize was claimed by Peter Clifford with a superb score of 33.
Congratulations to all the competition winners.
