Enniskillen and District Motorcycle Club members were back in action at Bishopscourt Race circuit on Saturday for the latest round of the Ulster Superbike Championship. This was a one-day event.
1000cc Pre-Injection Championship
ALL eyes have been on Rosslea man Andrew Brady, who has made his comeback to racing this year, competing in the Pre-injection class.
Brady has been on top form all season, scoring wins in all races.
This weekend was no exception as he took wins in both races while also setting another new track record (1:12.154) in Race One.
These two wins resulted in him securing enough points to be declared the 2021 Pre-Injection 1000cc Championship winner.
When asked about his racing comeback and title win, Brady said: “Winning every race and winning the championship has been great, but it can’t beat the feeling of just being back on the race bike.
“I finished racing a few years ago as I thought I was getting a bit too old, but when I gave it some thought I realised age is only a number, racing makes me happy, so I went back.
“It’s been the best decision I made and it’s great to be back on the racing scene and back meeting and chatting with the racing community.”
600cc Pre-Injection Championship
Brady wasn’t the only Ulster superbike champion to be crowned as Enniskillen club member Derek O’Donnell – who was competing in the same race aboard his Yamaha machine – also was a force to be reckoned with as he fought off all competition to also take a double win, which marked ten wins in a row, taking the Pre-Injection 600cc championship title.
O’Donnell, who is in his fourth season, was also delighted with how this year has gone.
“Yeah, we got the championship won with a round to spare. I really enjoyed racing this year and, of course, it’s been great to win every race, and I hope to keep the momentum going for the last race of the season.”
O’Donnell was joined on the podium by another club member, Steven Love, who has also achieved consistent results all season so far and finished third in both races.
Lyons double win
Jamie Lyons was another Enniskillen club member who made an appearance and made an impression.
Competing this year on English circuits in the Talent Cup series on a moto3 (250cc) machine, this is only his third outing of the year on his Yamaha R6 machine.
Lyons was competing in the Supersport Cup class – in qualifying, his lap times meant he was upgraded to race in the ‘pro’ class.
Race One was red flagged and restarted as a six-lap race.
Despite racing against seasoned pro riders, the 16-year-old rider managed to take an early lead ahead of all riders in his class and was the first cup rider to cross the finish line, setting a personal best lap record of 1.11.
Race Two was a 10-lap race – Lyons again was the first cup rider across the line to take the double win. The rider’s style did not go unnoticed and was commended for his mature riding by his fellow competitors.
Lyons was happy with his results: “First time on the top step on the C&M Motors R6 and hopefully not the last. Massive thanks to all my sponsors that are helping to keep me on track.”
Alastair Seeley was the winner in both the Supersport Pro class, with Lyons finishing in eighth and ninth position overall in the combined race.
In other classes
It was Lisnaskea man Duane Lewis and Fintona’s Michael McKernan who had head-to-head battles in both production twin races.
Lewis managed to finish his two races in seventh place, taking the lead from McKernan, who took two eighth-place finishes.
In the Superbike Cup class, Lisnaskea man Alan Armstrong missed a podium finish with a fourth place in both of his races.
Trevor Quinn from Fivemiletown finished in ninth place in the Supersport Club B Race One, but had some bad luck when he suffered from technical difficulties during Race Two and retired on lap three.
In the main feature superbike race one, Aaron Armstrong from Lisnaskea was battling for third position in the 10-lap race, but in the last lap – and just as Armstrong was headed for a podium finish – disaster struck when he lost the front of his machine, crashing out.
Whilst Armstrong was unscathed, damage to his machine meant he was unable to take part in Race Two.
It was Alastair Seeley who won both feature races.
