St. Pat’s 4-13 Derrylin 1-12
Goals either side of half time sent St. Pat’s on their way to the Division Two title at Brewster Park this afternoon.
As half time approached Derrylin appeared to be in the ascendancy as they moved into a 1-08 to 0-06 lead but St. Pat’s then hit 3-04 on the bounce to turn the game on it’s head.
A Ryan Kelly goal from the last kick of the half had that deficit trimmed back to one and from the throw in at the start of the second half St. Pat’s won possession and drove forward for Paul Cosgrave to net.
When Paul McManus then punched home four minutes later it put the Donagh men into a 3-09 to 1-08 lead and they never looked back after this as they pushed on for the victory.
There was little between the sides in the early stages of the game but a Jake Smith goal in the 11th minute saw the O’Connells open up a 1-03 to 0-02 lead.
St. Pat’s responded well to this with four points in a row from Michael Montgomery, Kelly and Eoghan Curran to level things up.
As the half progressed though Derrylin seemed to be gaining control and with James Dolan, Aaron McGoldrick, Jake Smith and James Boyle on target they moved into a 1-08 to 0-06 advantage.
However, that was as good as it got for the O’Connell’s as St. Pat’s took over.
Kelly saw a free kick drop into the back of the net to bring the Donagh side back into the game on the stroke of half time.
And they pushed on at the start of the second half as Cosgrove fired to the corner before Paul McManus punched to the net after good work from Eimhin Curran.
With Kelly, Eimhin Curran and Eoghan Curran landing points St. Pat’s pushed into an eight point advantage.
Derrylin did have scores from Eoin Maguire and Jake Smith but a fourth St. Pat’s goal killed off their challenge, Eimhin Curran this time the scorer as St. Pat’s claimed a 4-13 to 1-12 win.
