NFC Kesh 6 Enniskillen Athletic 2
NFC Kesh boss, Scott Robinson, feels his side are starting to put together consistent performances, something that was evident on Saturday as they hit six against Enniskillen Athletic at Connolly Park.
Three first half goals gave Kesh a good platform and while the visitors did pull it back to 3-2, Robinson never felt his side were in trouble.
“We have a bit of a head of steam getting up. We have a few players back from injury and trying to get them match fit which is not easy.
“It was bit of a gamble to play them on Saturday but it was very pleasing in the way we performed and the pace we played at.
“We knew Athletic would be a lot stronger with the Gaelic boys back and stuff it was important we came out of the traps quick. But they came out of the traps quick to be fair to them.
“Athletic came back with two super goals but really I wasn’t that concerned. I felt the boys kept sticking to what they were doing, the heads didn’t go down and it was very comfortable in the end and it was an important three points for us.”
On the other sideline, Athletic manager, Anthony Fitzpatrick thought the scoreline flattered the winners: “When we got it back to 3-2 we looked more likely to score the next but individual mistakes cost us.
“You can’t give away four goals and expect anything at this level.”
And while the result was not what he had hoped for the Athletic boss was more disappointed with another outcome from the game.
“What was more disappointing that the result was losing three players that were only back to what looks like long term injuries,” added Fitzpatrick.
It took 15 minutes for the deadlock to be broken when Ryan Campbell scored before Grant Ellis struck to double the advantage.
Campbell rattled the Athletic crossbar as Kesh kept the pressure on.
And the pressure paid off just before the half time whistle as Lee Walker made it 3-0.
The start to the second half saw Athletic come out determined to find a way back into the game. Conor Love pulled a goal back for them with a rocket of a finish from the left side of the box, with the ball finding the top corner.
With just under an hour played it was 3-2 as substitute John Reihil picked up the ball in midfield before dancing around a number of Kesh players and firing to the net.
It was becoming a tense affair but Campbell picked up his second of the game to make it 4-2 before Mark Jones added another with 10 to play.
And the points were wrapped up when Campbell completed his hattrick as it finished 6-2.
Next up for Kesh is a home game against Killen who sit three points above them in the table in third place.
While Athletic welcome Lisbellaw to the Lakeland Forum as they look bounce back and put further daylight between themselves and the bottom two in Division One.
