Enniskillen Rangers 3 Magheraveely 0
Three second half goals earned Enniskillen Rangers all three points against Magheraveely at the Ball Range on Saturday.
Jason Keenan, Christopher Currie and a last minute strike from Mark Cutler helped them ease to a comfortable victory, and manager Neil Coulter felt it was a score line that illustrated his side’s superiority.
“I thought we played very well,” said the boss.
“We passed the ball well, weren’t really troubled at the back and created numerous chances.
“We could have scored more but in the first half our final ball and our decision making let us down. We sorted that out at half time, and the boys went out all guns blazing in the second half.”
Magheraveely were forced into fielding a weakened side due to unavailability, and Rangers took advantage in the opening exchanges as they dominated possession, but they struggled to put together the final pass that would break the deadlock.
The first opening fell to player manager Coulter, but his header from a corner missed the target.
McManus also threatened with a header and Currie fired a dangerous ball across the face of the goal, but no one could get a touch to open the scoring.
The best chance of the half came in the dying moments when Richie Johnston won the ball in midfield and found Jason Keenan. His pass set Cutler away but as he got his shot off he was fouled, with the referee pointing to the penalty spot.
Keenan stepped up to take the spot kick, but Connor Smith went the right way to keep the game goalless at the break.
The game tilted firmly in Rangers’ favour ten minutes into the second half when they opened the scoring.
A deep corner was headed back into the six yard box by Johnston and Keenan headed past the keeper.
Five minutes later they went further ahead with the goal of the game from Currie. The attacker received possession on the right and cut inside the defender before curling a shot from the corner of the penalty area into the far top corner of the net.
In the last minute they secured all three points when Cutler fired home at the near post.
The win means Rangers can go into Saturday’s fixture against title challenging Tummery in a positive frame of mind.
“It is a difficult fixture, but we will get the boys well prepared for it,” said Coulter.
“If we can play like we did in the second half on Saturday then we can give anybody a run for their money.”
