Derrychara United 5 Enniskillen Galaxy 2
With five games left to play, Derrychara United maintained their promotion push as they stayed five points clear at the top of the Division Two table after securing a 5-2 win over neighbours Enniskillen Galaxy at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.
Galaxy had taken an early lead from the spot but Derrychara responded to lead 3-1 by the hour mark although Galaxy did hit back to make it 3-2.
However, two late goals wrapped up the points for Andy Reilly’s title challenging charges.
“Any derby match, the big thing is to win and it was a good win. Galaxy played their part and at 3-2 they might have thought that they would get something out of it but we finished the game off well.
“We have good momentum going and hopefully we can keep that up,” said Derrychara boss Reilly.
It was Galaxy who were to draw first blood in the game as Ronan McGinn put them ahead from the spot after only four minutes.
However, Derrychara responded well and they levelled four minutes later through a penalty of their own, Craig Johnston converting.
Derrychara went on to take control after this and with 20 minutes on the clock they took the lead as Ryan O’Keefe headed past Timmy Elliott in the Galaxy goal while Barry McCann then had an effort come off the woodwork as the home side looked to increase their advantage.
A third goal though did arrive ten minutes into the second half as a good move resulted in O’Keefe slotting home his second for 3-1 but Galaxy were brought right back into the game when Spencer Bird reacted quickest to a goalmouth scramble to tuck the ball to the net.
Derrychara though did not panic and Elliott denied both O’Keefe and Johnston before Lee Glass put the game out of Galaxy’s reach as he made it 4-2.
And Lee Farrell wrapped up the points two minutes later with a spectacular lob to leave it 5-2 at the finish.
Derrychara will hope to keep up their push with a home game against Fivemiletown II this weekend while Galaxy will host Lisnarick.
