Irvinestown Wanderers 1 NFC Kesh 2
NFC Kesh came from behind to take the derby spoils with a 2-1 win away to bottom of the table Irvinestown Wanderers on Saturday.
Wanderers had made the perfect start to the contest when Stephen Sheridan rifled home a thunderous opener after only two minutes.
However, Kesh responded with goals from Ryan Beatty and Mark Jones to leave it 2-1 at half time and that’s the way it remained through to the finish.
“To be honest, it was a scrappy game but I felt we deserved to win it,” said Kesh manager Scott Robinson.
“They got the early goal and it was a super strike by Stevie Sheridan to put them in front with their only shot on target and that shocked us a bit but I felt once we settled we got on top and we got the two goals.
“I didn’t think then we were in any danger in the second half,” he added.
It was Irvinestown though who got off to the dream opening as they took t he lead with two minutes on the clock, Sheridan letting fly with a rasping 30 yard drive that gave Stefan McCusker in the Kesh goal no chance.
Wanderers tails were up after this and they asked all the questions for the next 20 minutes but they failed to add to their advantage and midway through the half Kesh hit back to equalise as Walker’s corner was tocuhed home by Beatty.
And Kesh soon had their noses in front as McCusker’s long kick out found Walker on the right wing and he fed a lovely ball through to Jones to send him in one on one and the veteran striker made no mistake.
Irvinestown had appealed for a foul in the lead up to the goal but these appeals were waved away by the referee as the goal stood and Kesh moved into a 2-1 lead.
Kesh continued to enjoy the better of things at the start of the second half and Jones had the ball in the net again only for the opportunity to be ruled out for offside.
The game became scrappy in the closing stages and although both sides battled hard, neither were able to dictate the play.
However, Kesh were able to see out the time left on the clock without much threat to their goal as they returned home with the win and the three points.
