Enniskillen Rovers 0 Enniskillen Town 7
Enniskillen Town set up a mouthwatering quarter final derby clash against neighbours Enniskillen Rangers after they eased through to the last eight with a 7-0 win away to Division Three outfit Enniskillen Rovers on Saturday.
Town led 2-0 at the break and they bagged a further five goals to seal their place in the quarter final of the competition with joint manager Rory Judge looking forward to the derby tie against Rangers on Saturday week at the Ball Range.
“It is something to really look forward to,” he said. “There was a bit of doom and gloom after the Junior Cup exit but a draw like that soon gets everybody lifted, it is a big derby game and that is what we are concentrating on.
“The last league game between the sides was tepid but I think this will be a much more competitive affair as there is a spot in the semi-final up for grabs.”
The tie against Rovers was one that Town used to give players game time although they still had a lot of quality on the field, especially in the attacking areas through Darren Freeman, Cathal Beacom and Frank Wallace.
Rovers were always faced with an uphill task against their far more established opponents but they battled hard throughout.
Town’s extra quality though was clear to see and Freeman opened the scoring in the 11th minute and the visitors quickly followed up with a second when Cathal Beacom slotted home from the spot after Eoin Beacom was fouled.
Town went on to hit four goals in a 13 minute spell in the second half to put the game out of sight with Ethan Beresford hitting a brace in the space of a minute while Beacom also notched his second. Dara Carty then headed home at the far post to make it 6-0.
And the scoring was wrapped up late on as Gary Stewart tucked home through a crowded area as it finished 7-0.
“The important thing on Saturday was to give boys who had been training well but had not had much game time a start and in that respect it served its purpose.
“It was also great to get Cathal Beacom his first 90 minutes since October,” added Judge.
