Enniskillen Athletic 2 Beragh Swifts 2
Enniskillen Athletic moved out of the relegation zone last Saturday following their 2-2 draw with Beragh Swift but it could have been so much better for the home side who conceded late on.
The draw means Athletic move level on points with Magheraveely who drop into the bottom two due to their inferior goal difference.
In blustery conditions at the at the Lakeland Forum it was Athletic who had the better of the opening exchanges.
Playing with the wind they almost took an early lead but midfielder Paddy Reihill’s shot came back off the post.
With 21 minutes played, however, Athletic were in front.
Matty Holden played a lovely ball over the top of the Beragh defence for Conor Love to run on to and he took it round the keeper before slotting home.
But just on the stroke of half time the Tyrone side were level from the penalty spot.
Beragh got in behind the home defence who were caught ball watching and while trying to get back, centre-half Dermot Lewsley fouled Stephen Browne who then dusted himself off and fired home from the spot to leave it 1-1 at the break.
Playing with the wind in the second half, Beragh began to boss proceedings a bit more.
Both sides were guilty of missing good chances to take the lead with Athletic substitute, Colm McNally, having two of them.
With 15 minutes left to play the home side went in front again as Love was played through again before placing the ball in the bottom left hand corner of the net.
It looked like Athletic would have enough to hold out Beragh who pushed hard for an equaliser.
And they got their rewards when Colin Adams ghosted in at the back post to head home with three minutes of the 90 to play as the game ended 2-2.
There was a feeling of a missed opportunity for Anthony Fitzpatrick and his side at the final whistle.
The Athletic coach said: “It feels like two points dropped especially having hit the woodwork twice and us creating so many chances, especially in the second half.”
Fitzpatrick also looked back at a tactical switch that proved costly saying: “I have to take some responsibility having made a change on our left which is where their equaliser came from.”
Athletic will look to continue their push for survival at home again this Saturday when they face Mountfield.
