Aghadrumsee Badminton Club hosted the club's first ever tournament on Tuesday night, April 26 in Aghadrumsee Orange Hall.
The tournament was a Minor A/B Mens Doubles tournament with 10 pairs playing. The format of the tournament was a round robin style with three rounds of fixtures, pairs would be drawn out against one another and play one straight game to 30.
These initial three rounds showcased some fantastic badminton, showing that the sport is alive and well in Fermanagh. There were some extremely close games in these preliminary rounds, including a great game by Mark Johnston and Aaron Johnston.
At the end of these three rounds the top four pairs with the highest points tally would go through to the semi-finals, these four pairs were then drawn out against one another.
The matches were Andrew Hutchinson and Jack Wilson against Kelvin McNally and Noel Ebbitt while the other semi final consisted of Robert Graham and Henry Hutchinson against Lee Sheridan and Jonny Cathcart. The winners of the first semi final were Kelvin and Noel while the other semi final, although a tight game, saw Robert Graham and Henry Hutchinson progress.
The final displayed some great badminton but the McNally and Ebbitt duo were too strong for Graham and Hutchinson, defeating them 30-23 in the final.
McNally and Ebbitt were the consistent duo throughout the night with some fantastic shots and were without a doubt the deserved winners at the end. The list of pairings for the tournament is as follows: Philip Elliott and Gary Thornton, Lee Sheridan and Jonny Cathcart, David Miller and Richard Moffit, Kelvin McNally and Noel Ebbitt, George Williamson and Daniel Williamson, Ian Elliott and Jonathan Willis, Andrew Hutchinson and Jack Wilson, Mark Johnston and Aaron Johnston, Robert Graham and Henry Hutchinson, David Browne and Jonny Willis.
