Derrylin 2-09 Roslea 0-10

Two second half goals paved the way for Derrylin to pick up their first win of the Club Players’ Competition with a five point win at home to Roslea last Friday evening.

The win puts Derrylin on three points and if they can beat Devenish this week and St. Pat’s lose to Derrygonnelly, there is a chance they may finish second in their group.

The O’Connell’s were the quickest out of the blocks and scores from Cathair Shannon alongside Ferghal McGovern frees put them into a decent lead.

However, that encouraging start did not last and the second quarter saw Roslea come back into the game while Derrylin were guilty of some bad misses.

Shane Lynch and Brendan Sherlock were on target for the visitors as they managed to claw their way back into the game and leave the minimum between the sides at the break, 0-04 to 0-03.

Roslea continued to put on the pressure and two more Lynch scores after the restart saw them move into a one point lead.

The side’s traded a point each with 10 minutes played of the second half before Derrylin struck for their first goal.

A driving run from Diarmuid Owens saw him get on the end of the ball and fire to the net.

The second goal came shortly after and put Derrylin in firm control of the game.

Conal Boyle was played in following a good team move and he made no mistake to make 2-05 to 0-06.

The teams then traded scores for the remainder of the game with James Boyle and Cathair Leonard on target for Derrylin while Lynch and Matthew McMahon responded for Roslea who were unable to find the goals they needed to get back into the game.

For Derrylin manager, Sean Donnelly, he had mixed feelings about the performance from his side but was happy to pick up a first win: “We had a good start but a poor second half of the first half. But we got the goals at the right time.”

Donnelly knows there is all to play for on Friday but admits Devenish will not be easy.

For Roslea they concluded their campaign without a win.
