Devenish 2-11 St. Patrick's 2-09
Devenish clinched the U15 A Championship title as they saw off St. Patrick’s at the second attempt in Kinawley on Tuesday night.
The sides had played out an entertaining draw last Wednesday night but on this occasion Devenish got on top in the second quarter and despite a late rally from the Donagh side they managed to see the game out to secure the victory.
The opening period of the game was evenly contest with the sides sharing the first four points. Conor Kelly and Nathan Beattie landed or St. Pat’s while Daniel McGovern and Cormac Burns registered for the Garrison outfit.
However, Devenish started to take control after this as they went on to hit six points in a row to make into an 0-08 to 0-02 advantage by the 25th minute.
Fionn Leydon, Aaron Doherty, Taidgh O’Brien, McGovern and Cathal O’Flanagan all notched points for Devenish during this spell while Nathan McGoldrick also missed a penalty for Devenish.
Eoghan McManus did clip over a point for St. Pat’s but Doherty replied for Devenish as the gap remained six at the break.
St. Pat’s did start the second half well as they knocked over the opening point before they were then awarded a penalty but Nathan Beattie effort flew over the bar to leave four between the sides.
However, two goals in a five minute spell from McGovern and Doherty put Devenish in firm control of the contest as they moved into a 2-09 to 0-06 lead.
McGovern and Doherty then tagged on further points for the Garrison side but St. Pat’s refused to throw the towel in and they hit back with points from Beattie and Mohan while Devenish goalkeeper Josh Flanagan pulled off two good saves to keep a cushion between the sides.
St. Pat’s did continue to battle and Conor Kelly and Joe McGoldrick did bag goals in injury time but it was not to be enough as Devenish held on to claim what was a deserving victory.
