Lisnaskea 3-09 Newtownbutler 1-10
Lisnaskea took the derby spoils last Friday night as they defeated Newtownbutler by five points at Emmet Park on a scoreline of 3-09 to 1-10, a week on from their victory away to Aghadrumsee.
The home side missed a penalty before Joe McDade netted after a long run from midfield.
Newtown responded with a goal of their own from Ryan Rooney before the break as the teams went into half-time separated by just one point, at 1-04 to 1-03.
Liam Mullarkey and Ryan Moran added to ’Skea’s points tally but it was second-half goals from Ogi Kelly and Niall Keenan that proved the difference.
Lisnaskea Manager John Reihill was pleased with his side’s performance: “We are nine games in now and every game is important, especially after the loss against Irvinestown.
“We had a couple of boys missing on Friday and it was a team effort that got us over the line, so that is a real positive.
“The goals were crucial to see the game out. Ogi Kelly got an important goal and point at the right times, and Niall Keenan got the other important goal in the second half.
“Sean Keenan played a big part with a hand in both of those goals. We are happy with the performances at the minute, and we have come back well since the defeat to Irvinestown.”
Newtownbutler Manager Darren Chapman said he was disappointed with the result: “We are disappointed, but look, that’s league football. I think we had an off night, so now it is down to us to learn from our mistakes and move on to the next game.
“We will review the game through our video analysis and push forward. There was no difference in our preparation to any other game, so there is no point dwelling on it, and we have to focus on the positives.”
The Emmets face a tough test against an in-form Belcoo side this Friday night.
Reihill said: “Belcoo have a lot of experience with boys who have been about for a while. We are a younger team, so they have that experience on their side.”
Meanwhile, Newtownbutler faces Irvinestown, and Chapman says he is looking forward to the challenge: “It is going to be a very difficult game. Irvinestown is one of the stronger teams in the division, but it will be a great challenge and we look forward to it.”
