Irvinestown 1-11 Aghadrumsee 0-09
Irvinestown continued their impressive form at the start of the Division Two league with a confident five-point victory over Aghadrumsee last Friday evening.
Having built up a five-point halftime lead, Irvinestown were able to see out the game with Stephen Sheridan’s goal in the second half helping them to the points.
For Manager Francie Ward, he is happy with the progress his side has made after coming into the league with no points from the Club Players’ Competition.
“We are happy with the way things are going,” he said.
“There’s a positive attitude and they are starting to get into a bit of momentum.”
The teams that Irvinestown have beaten so far have also been pleasing for Ward.
“Three on the bounce – I’m pleased with that and beating teams that beat us in the Players’ Competition, which is a big bonus.”
The winners dictated proceedings for much of the game and they would go in at half-time with a five-point lead, 0-07 to 0-02.
Up front, Ronan Ormsby and Sean Clear did the bulk of the scoring in the opening 30 minutes for the winners, while Darren Kearns was on target for the Magpies, who struggled against a solid Irvinestown defence in which Jarlath Maguire excelled.
In the second half, it was much the same as Irvinestown did enough to keep a distance between themselves and Aghadrumsee.
Ormsby was again to the fore while Gary Maguire and Ben McCann also pointed, alongside Sheridan’s goal keeping them in front.
Aodhan Durnien was accurate from placed balls for Aghadrumsee, but they never looked like doing enough to get back into the game.
Next up for Irvinestown is Newtownbutler, and Ward sees it as another chance for progress, and to see what his squad is like.
“Hopefully it’s another step in the progression. It will give me a chance to use a squad and it will see where we are.”
For Aghadrumsee, they take on Tempo next.
