Club Captain Gerard Flynn held a very successful and memorable Captain’s Day at Castle Hume on Saturday as David McQuade took the top honours with a stunning 44 points.
With over 100 members and guests taking to the fairways of Castle Hume, it was left to the weather to add a little bit of sunshine and rain to a very enjoyable and exciting day.
Interesting pins
With Captain Gerry having put together a combination of some interesting pin locations mixed in with risk and reward opportunities, the large entry field were treated to a Castle Hume course in pristine condition with a true test of golf guaranteed.
With Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive rewards, the best of Castle Hume were left to battle it out.
David McQuade has been knocking on major success all season and has worked very hard on all aspects of his game.
The reward for all this hard work was a dream round on Captain’s Day that saw the Castle Hume star take his game to a different level. A stunning 44 points was recorded by him and it was peppered with superb drives, wonderful approach shots and a display of putts that could do no wrong. With a calm demeanour and drawing on a lot of experience, David finished off his round in style to claim the much coveted Captain’s Prize.
In runner up spot with a score of 43 points was Brian Melarkey with Anthony Cassidy completing the top three also with 43 points.
The Gross prize was won by the very talented Danny Daly with another stunning score of 35 points.
The other Prize winners were: Past Captain - Fred Cowan 37pts; Committee Prize - Roger Howe 41pts; Guest Winner - Damian Johnston 37pts; Guest Runner-up - Robin Ferguson 36pts; front nine - Andriy Dovhyy 22pts (bb6); back nine - Frank McHugh 22pts; Nearest to the Pin on six - Darren Breen; Closest to the Pin on 18 - Roy Cathcart; Ladies’ guest - Gillian Wilson 33pts; First Lady - Lily O’Connell 65 nett; Second Lady - Rosie Treacy 68 nett.
