Fermanagh Brazilian Ju Jitsu followed up last month’s success at Grappling Industries, Belfast with a team entering Grappling Industries, Dublin recently.
It was a very big tournament with people travelling to compete from all over Ireland and many from further afield too.
Fermanagh Brazilian Ju Jitsu sent a team of five, including four adults and one child, to the tournament and came home with a total of 10 medals; three gold, five silver and two bronze and placed 7th out of 86 BJJ schools that entered.
Laura Downey came away with two silvers after being matched against very tough and experienced competitors in the Gi and Nogi.
Conor Gawley in the kids groups had a very impressive performance, dominating at first with positions and submission attempts until a neck crank hindered his final few matches and came away with two silvers, one in Gi and one in Nogi.
Declan Cassidy had clear victories in the Gi to secure gold and then came away with bronze in Nogi after a couple of close matches.
Ryan Leonard won gold in both Gi and Nogi.
Some clear, decisive victories in both divisions by submission and one very narrow points victory over team mate Declan Cassidy in Nogi.
Matt Rennick had a total of 10 matches.
He finished everyone in the Gi by submission until the final where it was even points at the end but the referee’s decision went to his opponent so he came away with a silver.
His Nogi division had several submission victories and a couple of close losses securing bronze.
An excellent tournament run by Grappling Industries again with all of our team going home with plenty to be happy about and also plenty to learn when we return to training in Lisnaskea.
