Teemore 3-15 Newtownbutler 1-06
Teemore hit 3-15 for the second week running as they saw off a Newtownbutler side who failed to build on their win against Belcoo the previous week.
Teemore made a strong start to proceedings, rattling up 1-07 before Newtownbutler got their first score of the game.
During that spell the Shamrocks had two points from Paul Doherty, three from full forward Eoin McManus, a free kick from Ronan McCaffrey and another point from Ruairi Maguire.
Aaron McManus got the home side’s goal to give them a ten-point lead.
Newtown struck back with points from Ger O’Keefe, Sean Conlon and Diarmuid King.
But, Eoin McManus replied for the Shamrocks from the penalty spot, and he also finished off a scathing Teemore attack to give the home side a 2-08 to 0-03 advantage heading into half time at St Mary’s Park.
McManus was on target early on in the second half to stretch the lead with a finely placed free kick.
Newtown were given a path back into the match after they were awarded a penalty and it was stroked into the net by forward Conor Courtney.
King also added another point for the visitors.
However, McManus again added two points from free kicks for the Shamrocks going into the water break.
Colm McNally and McManus further extended the home side’s advantage as they tagged on two points going into the final ten minutes of the contest before McNally finished off the scoring with a goal with just over five minutes to play.
Newtownbutler host Maguiresbridge at their new ground this Friday, a win for them and a loss for Belcoo would see them leapfrog into fourth place.
Newtownbutler assistant manager Clive Fitzpatrick said: “Teemore were the better team, no question, they got off to a great start which we never recovered from. Our youthfulness could not compete with their physicality and the gap between a team playing in the Senior Championship versus the Junior Championship was evident, although, we failed to convert three goal chances.
“We now look forward towards getting a good result vs Maguiresbridge to finish off the league campaign before the Junior Championship starts which is our main target.”
Teemore will play Belcoo at MacNean Park and depending on other results could finish the campaign in first, second, third or fourth.
Teemore manager Barry Owens knows that his side still have work to do if they are to be promoted as they face a Belcoo side who are still in the promotion hunt themselves.
“We know we’re going to have to work really hard on Friday night to get a result because Belcoo always cause us problems and especially now when they still have a chance of promotion,” said Owens.
