Enniskillen Rangers 1 Lisbellaw United 3
Lisbellaw United secured a deserved three points as they came from behind to beat an understrength Enniskillen Rangers 3-1 at the Ball Range on Tuesday night.
Rangers had taken the lead from a well struck Nathan Khan free kick but Jay Taylor had the ‘Law back on level terms before the break and further strikes from Scott Moutray and Paul Elliott sealed the points for Kyle McCleery’s charges.
The Lisbellaw manager was understandably delighted with his side’s display on the night as they picked up their first points of the campaign.
“I was pleased with both the performance and the result and I felt we were good value for the three points,” he said.
“The first half was even enough but I thought we dominated the second half and it was good to get the win after the disappointment of Saturday.
“I thought everybody played well,” he added.
Rangers boss Mickey Kerr had no complaints about the outcome after a disappointing display by his side.
“Lisbellaw thoroughly deserved the win, there is no doubt about it,” he said. “The performance was not good enough for Enniskillen Rangers, we need to be a lot better than we were on Tuesday night.”
The plus point for Kerr though was the effort of the young players.
“The positive for me to take out of it was the lads who came in all brought a good energy and did exactly as they were asked to do. I was pleased with all the young lads,” he said.
Following a quiet start, Matthew Woods had an early chance for Lisbellaw when he headed wide from a corner on the left side while Sam Lindsay went close when his free kick rebounded off the wall back to him and he rifled the second effort just wide of the post.
Rangers though came more into the game with probing balls through to Ciaran Brough and Khan almost opening up the Lisbellaw defence before the home side did take the lead after 26 minutes.
Brough did really well to beat a couple of players and broke in from the right before he was taken down 25 yards out.
Khan stepped up to take the free kick which he curled superbly over the wall and into the net with Lisbellaw goalkeeper William McFrederick rooted to the ground.
Rangers were on top at this stage and McFredrick made a great save from Jay Keenan who hit a fine left footed effort which he tipped over the bar.
However, Lisbellaw got back into it and they went on equalise through Taylor who slotted home from 12 yards after being teed up by Richard Woods.
Rangers almost restored the lead immediately as Jason Cluff broke in at speed down the right but crashed his effort off the bar as Rangers were dealt a major blow just before the half time whistle when Jake Brown went off with what looked like a nasty ankle injury.
It was Lisbellaw though who were to take control of proceedings in the second half with three chances coming early on; two for Sam Lindsay and one for Matthew Woods.
And they eventually did take the lead as Scott Moutray ran through and produced a clinical left footed finish from the edge of the box.
Moutray then had a great chance to wrap up the points for the visitors but he failed to make a clean contact on the ball with the goal at his mercy.
A third though did arrive for the ‘Law as Taylor laid the ball back to Paul Elliott and his shot from the edge of the box took a slight deflection on it’s way past Joel Peden in the ‘Gers goal as Lisbellaw secured the points.
Next up for Lisbellaw is a home game against Killen Rangers while Kerr will be looking for a response from his players when they take on a Beragh Swifts side who have won their opening two games.
