Irvinestown 1-15 Belcoo 0-15
Irvinestown produced a strong finish as they came from five points down to secure the Division Two title with a 1-15 to 0-15 victory over Belcoo today at Brewster Park.
The St. Molaise out led by two at the break, 0-07 to 0-05, but Belcoo came flying out of the blocks at the start of the second half and hit eight of the next nine points to move five clear, 0-13 to 0-08.
However, a Joey Millar goal midway through the second half breathed life back into the Irvinestown challenge and they went on to enjoy the better of the exchanges to finish up three point winners.
It was tit for tat in the opening quarter of the game as Irvinestown held an early 0-04 to 0-03 lead.
Kevin McDonnell and Ronan Ormsby landed two points apiece while Ciaran Flaherty hit two for Belcoo while Paul McGrath was also among the points.
Scores from Jack Largo Elis and an Ormsby free moved Irvinestown three points ahead before Conor McAloon rattled over a terrific point for the O'Rahillys.
Jack Largo Elis and Lawrence McKeown then traded points to leave two in it at half time.
Belcoo though took a grip on the contest at the start of the second half with a strong of fine points.
Conor McAloon (3), Flaherty (2), Dean McDermott and Paul McGrath (2) all rattled off points as Belcoo moved into a 0-13 to 0-08 advantage.
Gary Maguire kept Irvinestown in touch with a point and then came the key score of the game. A high ball spilled out to Miller who slotted to the back of the Belcoo net as Irvinestown closed to within one point.
Jack Largo Elis knocked over his third point of the game to level things at 0-13 to 1-10 but Belcoo reponded with a well struck Conor McAloon point and a McKeown effort to move two ahead.
The last five points of the game though all went to Irvinetown with James Duffy and Ormsby levelling things up at 0-15 to 1-12 before Christopher Lyons, Ormsby and Gary Maguire rattled over points to seal a three point victory.
