St Patrick’s 0-9 Tempo 1-9
Tempo made it two wins from two in their Intermediate Championship group as they overcame St Pats at Louis Leonard Park.
Tiarnan Bogue’s second-half goal was the difference between the sides with Tempo sitting at the top of the group after Irvinestown’s win.
Bogue said his side were delighted to guarantee a semi-final spot: “After a disappointing league, it was nice to get two consecutive Championship wins.
“We were probably fortunate on the day, with Donagh missing a number of goal chances in the first half.”
St Pats looked the stronger of the sides in the opening proceedings and Dara and Johnny O’Reilly gave them a two-point lead before Niall Fee and Ryan Ingram responded for the visitors.
Fee and Jimmy Tormey then traded scores before Brian McDermott and Eimhin Curran gave St Pat’s a two-point lead at half time with the scores at 0-05 to 0-03.
Aidan Breen and Conor Foy levelled things shortly into the second half a they landed points for the Maguires.
Conan Fitzpatrick and Cameron McBrien added points for the home side with Eunan McCann, Ryan Breen and Bogue adding for the Maguires leaving the away side with a slender 0-08 to 0-07 advantage.
St Pat’s big chance came with a long ball into the box, Eimhin Curran caught it and rounded the Tempo goalkeeper, but his off-balanced shot flew wide.
Bogue added another point to his tally with a free kick and a couple of moments later a Tempo attack that started on the halfway line was patiently worked in before Bogue was released on goal and he fired his shot past Donagh goalkeeper Shaun Montgomery.
Brian McDermott almost found an instant reply when he spun his man but shot wide to the left as St. Pat’s went searching for a way back into the game.
McDermott then received a black card as did Tempo’s Eunan McCann moments after to leave both sides reduced to 14 men.
Eamon Maguire and Johnny O’Reilly scored late points for St Pat’s, but Tempo were able to see out the win.
Donagh manager Paul Hasson said he was disappointed to come away empty handed from the contest: “I felt we competed well for large parts of the game and ultimately, we missed too many scoring opportunities at vital times.
“We have work to do before the Irvinestown game but thankfully with the round robin format we get the chance to improve the next game out.”
Tempo will face Lisnaskea in their final group game with goal scorer Bogue adding: “We are wary of the challenge Lisnaskea will bring next week. They were unlucky in both their two opening games, losing out by narrow margins and will want to round the group off with a win.”
