Enniskillen angler James O’Doherty secured an individual fifth place and helped Ireland to a team sixth spot at the World Feeder Championships which were held in Maasvissers Geistingen in Belgium.
James was joined in the six-man Ireland team for the competition by Micheal Butchwalder, Tony Hopkins, Charlie Richards, Johnny McKinnly and Rimantas Kondrackas.
The management team comprised Brenton Sweeney, Rodger Baker and Nigel Houldsworth.
The venue itself held Bream and Roach as the two main species, with Asp and Perch also in abundance.
Over the two days of competition, Ireland made a great comeback on day two to jump up into sixth place, and winning day two after a disappointing first day.
On the individual front Michael Butchwalder made history, becoming the first angler from Ireland to win an individual medal for Ireland in second place.
James O’Doherty also came agonisingly close to a bronze medal, but had to settle for fifth individually – also his best performance.
James thanked Van Den Eynde and Tubertini for the continued support and to the Mary Peters Trust for their financial support.
Next year’s event will be held in Serbia.
