It’s a big week for the Faldo Course at the Lough Erne Resort as it hosts the Euro ProTour Championship finale.
Prior to the main competition, which commenced yesterday (Wednesday), there was a chance for local golfers to taste the action in the Euro Pro Tour Championship Pro-Am, the opener for the week long tournament.
On Tuesday, 23 teams of four players with each team having one professional and three amateurs, took to the course.
“The beauty about the Pro-Am is that we were able to get a lot of local amateur golfers to play a part in this,” said Barry McCauley Woods, Golf Operations manager at the Lough Erne Resort.
“We were delighted to see the massive interest from the local golfing community.
“We had teams entered from Enniskillen Golf Club, Castle Hume Golf Club and Lough Erne Golf Club and we were just delighted with how the weather turned out,.
“There was a bit of fog delay but it turned into a beautiful day with the sun shining.”
There had been a lot of rain over the weekend and McCauley Woods praised the work undertaken to ensure the course was perfect for the start of the tournament.
“There was a lot of rain over the weekend so Sean Reilly, the course super-intendant, and his team have done a magnificent job in having the course in terrific condition. It is so well presented, and a testament to their hard work.”
The Pro Tour Tournament got underway yesterday (Wednesday) and will run through to Friday .
“We are looking forward to seeing what scores the pros come in with over the next few days as the course is set up to be very challenging.
“This is the first week long pro tournament to be held at the Lough Erne so it is very exciting for everybody involved to see how Lough Erne Resort works for hosting a pro tournament,” added Barry.
Fermanagh Lakeland Tourism along with Tourism NI are involved in supporting the event and Barry believes that it is a wonderful opportunity for the course to be showcased to the golfing world with the Sky Sports Golf camera in attendance.
“Sky Sports Golf will be there on Thursday and Friday filming the course so it is a great opportunity to get a massive reach for the Fermanagh Lakelands and Lough Erne Resort Faldo Course across to everybody that tunes in to Sky Sports Golf across the globe.
“It has been a great success so far and fingers crossed that the weather stays kind to us. and hopefully everybody will have a great experience.
“It will hopefully bring us on to the next level in terms of exposure on a global market which was our main objective,” he stated.
