Enniskillen Athletic 2 Mountjoy Utd 1
Two goals in the last 10 minutes secured a third win of the season for Enniskillen Athletic over Mountjoy United.
Played in challenging conditions, it was hard for either side to create sustained periods of play and it was not until midway through the second half that the game really sprang into life.
Athletic boss, Darren Rodgers was delighted with his teams performance and response to going a goal behind: “I’m delighted with the way the boys played Saturday in awful conditions.
“And we played really well at times, and could have scored a few more.
“We missed a few good chances in the first half and the boys dug in deep when going one down and showed great character to come back in the last 10 minutes to grab the win.”
Neither side could break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes however, Athletic’s Garvan Quigley had a goal ruled out for offside while the home side also went close from a couple of corners and crosses.
In the second half, playing with the wind Mountjoy enjoyed a bit more possession after 54 minutes William Donaghy volleyed into the top corner.
A couple of switches for Athletic saw them push for an equaliser and with 86 minutes played Glenn Treacy fired low to the net to level matters.
And a few minutes later, substitute Dermot Lewsley was played through and he made no mistake to make it 2-1.
Mountjoy had one last attack but the resulting corner came to nothing and Athletic took the points.
Next up for Athletic is the visit of Strathroy to the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.
