Enniskillen Town 18 Derrychara United 0
League leaders Enniskillen Town hit the back of the Derrychara United net 18 times on Saturday but joint manager James McKenna is not reading too much into the result against the Mercer League’s bottom club.
Cathal Beacom scored six for the home side while Lee Brennan grabbed a hat-trick. There was a brace a piece for Duwayne McManus and Frank Wallace with Callum Jones, Dara Carty, McKenna and an own goal wrapping up a very comfortable afternoon for the table toppers.
“You can just beat what is put in front of you but it is hard not to feel sorry for Derrychara. They lost a lot of players and they are rebuilding with next year in mind.
“From our perspective, we can’t take too much out of it but it was good for the strikers to get goals because they pride themselves on how many goals they get at the end of the season.
“Look, it was just important to get the three points and not to pick up any injuries or silly yellow cards and we managed to do that,” he said.
The victory moved Town ten points clear at the top of the table but McKenna is very aware that they have played more games than some of the challengers.
“The table has a very false look to it. Because we have the 4G pitch and are not in the Junior Cup we have played a lot more games but if Dergview win their games in hand they will only be a point behind while Tummery would only be two behind if they win their games.
“We will not be getting carried away with it, there is a lot of tough games to be played yet,” said McKenna.
Next up for Town is an away game against Mountjoy and McKenna says that they face something of the unknown.
“it will be a challenge, they have a new manager in and he has brought in a few players so they will be a bit of an unknown.
“We will just have to prepare as well as we can for a difficult test and go there and try to get the three points.”
Derrychara have another derby contest this week when they host Enniskillen Athletic.
