Edel Monaghan produced a fine race as she claimed silver in the Irish Inter-Varsity indoor T&F 3,000m on Saturday in the National Indoor Arena at Abbotstown.

Irvinestown girl Edel – who is athletes Captain for TUD – had a brilliant run in a stacked 3,000m race, running 9min 46sec and coming second to Irish junior Aoife O’Cuill, and ahead of other junior internationals Donegan and Roberts.

It was great preparation for the forthcoming European clubs Cross-Country finals next weekend in Valentia, Spain.

Her team, DCH, qualified for the Europeans following their victory at national Seniors in Donegal last November.

Meanwhile, in Athlone at the AAI games, fellow Irvinestown athlete Conal Mahon, competing for Tir Chonaill AC, jumped 14.70 metres to break his own Ulster Triple Jump record on his way to first place at the event.
