There was some superb performance at the E-District Schools’ Championships on Tuesday at Necarne with St. Michael’s pair Frank Buchanan and Jack Donnelly along with Enniskillen Royal’s Annabel Morrison among the stand out performers on the day.
Buchanan is in a rich vein of form at present and he continued that at Necarne. The Intermediate Boys race was one of the anticipated races of the championships but Buchanan went on to dominate to finish a comfortable winner ahead of St. Michael’s team-mate Sean Corry with the Blue Vests taking the team gold.
Third place went to St. Mary’s Irvinestown’s Jamie McDonnell with Ben Warnock of St. Kevin’s Lisnaskea in fourth.
Enniskillen Royal picked up third place in the team race, lead home by Adam Cathcart in 12th position.
Morrison was another to produce a hugely impressive run. The Enniskillen Royal pupil has only returned from injury but she won well from Cora Scullion of Loreto Omagh with Aoibhin Kelly of Mount Lourdes securing third spot.
With Ciara O’Donnell and Kellie McAnespie also finishing high up the field, Mount Lourdes took second in the team section.
In the Minor Boys, Jack Donnelly of St. Michael’s has been enjoying a fine season and he went on to clinch the victory with another big display.
Indeed, St. Michael’s went on to make it a clean sweep in the race with Nathan Coyle second ahead of Cormac Ratchford in the third.
In the Mini Girls, Mount Lourdes claimed first and third with Megan Mullally taking the victory while Naoisa McKenna was third as they took top spot in the team race.Jessica Largo Elis of St. Mary’s Irvinestown in fourth spot.
St. Kevin’s Piaras Toner was the top finisher from the Fermanagh schools in the Mini Boys race as he took second place ahead of Enniskillen Royals Luca Hall who was third.
St. Michael’s claimed gold in the team race with seven runners in the top 15.
Annabelle McKenzie raced her way to third in the Minor girls event while Mount Lourdes filled positions fourth to seventh, led home by Eden Davis to take the team victory.
Ellie Dunlop of Enniskillen Royal was the top finishing local runner in the Junior Girls, she came home in eighth spot.
The Junior Boys saw Harry McKenzie had to come from behind to storm to a convincing win in the end.
St. Michael’s took second place in the team race with Ryan Hegarty and Michael McGowan both inside the top 15.
Mount Lourdes took the team title in the Senior Girls race with Nadine McIntyre, Sinead Barrett and Cliodhna Martin finishing second, third and fourth respectively.
Enniskillen Royal were second with Sophia Williams their highest finisher.
And in the Senior Boys race, Patrick Williams of Enniskillen Royal was second with Jack Burns of St. Michael’s third. St. Michael’s won the team title with Enniskillen Royal third.
