Derrychara United 0 Enniskillen Athletic 7
Derrychara’s woes continued at the Lakeland Forum as they were hit for seven by Enniskillen Athletic whose fine form in front of goal continued since the turn of the new year.
Athletic thought they had made the perfect start just two minutes in but Conor Love’s effort on goal was deemed to have not crossed the line.
However, Love would not be denied a second time as just over ten minutes in he picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and played a one-two before he picked out the bottom right corner to open Athletic’s account for the afternoon.
Jamie McFarlane added a second 24 minutes into the game when a long-range effort was spilt by goalkeeper Paul Murphy and McFarlane stayed calm to walk the ball in and finish.
The floodgates opened for the away side as Jake Smith’s expertly placed free kick into the top right corner made it three and John Reihill bagged the fourth seconds after kick-off with a right-footed effort from outside the box that found the bottom left corner.
Derrychara were unable to offer any sort of threat going forward and were instead restricted to a few long-range efforts in the first half. Love thought he was in for his second a few minutes before half time, but he was taken down in the box and Phillip Leonard stepped up to find the bottom right corner from the resultant spot kick.
John Reihill’s cross was headed into the bottom corner by Fionn Nolan to make it six as Athletic’s pressure was relentless before the half time whistle.
Love then made it seven less than 15 seconds into the restart to leave the scoreline at 7-0 going into the break.
The away side were unable to match their scoring rout in the first half, Love went close to finding his hat trick with a couple of efforts from range.
Derrychara almost pulled one back with a header from a corner, but it flew just wide of James Maguire’s goal.
Enniskillen Athletic manager Darren Rodgers said he was “happy enough with the result” following the game.
“Another three points, we can only beat what was in front of us.
“We are away to Omagh Albion in the Mulhern on Saturday, we don’t know too much about them to be fair. But if we don’t approach the game in the right way, it could be a real banana skin,” he said.
