ERNE Wrestling Club coach Bruce Irwin and Ivan Enchev travelled to the East Midlands at the weekend to take on Wrestlers from all around the country and abroad.
This time it was the English Senior Championships where Ivan put on a master class in wrestling. The UK saw, first hand how effective and talented this young man is. In what is always considered one of the toughest weight categories in wrestling, 79kg, Ivan demolished the field without allowing a single point scored against him in any match.
Four matches in the single day, very talented opponents were frustrated by the level of talent and pressure Ivan put on them.
This tournament is generally one of the nations qualifying tournaments for national and international selection so to perform at this level is an incredible achievement. Ivan’s dedication to the sport and the club is evident as he continues to assist his teammates and training partners in one of the worlds oldest sports. He can compete at some of the highest international levels.
Darragh Love travelled to Bordeaux, France last week to compete in an international qualifying event and put in a fantastic days work. He came up just short of the medal match but gained invaluable experience from it.
Darragh has demonstrated that he belongs on the international stage as he continues to develop his skillset in this sport.
Erne Wrestling Club is known throughout the country as a pre-eminent wrestling club, producing some of the best wrestlers over the years.
Athletes from many sport disciplines visit the club to avail of some very unique training which helps them in whatever activity they normally do. Strength and conditioning, balance and positional movement are just a few of the essential skills.
Combat sport athletes, from all over Ireland, regularly attend sessions knowing how important these techniques and the mindset within the sport is.
The next scheduled event for the club is the English Junior Championships in March, in Nottingham.
Newcomers are always welcome at the club as well as clubs of different sports to learn more ways to develop skills which can easily crossover into their game. Just basic fitness is also a big part of the clubs ethos so give it a go.
