Dergview Reserves 1 Enniskillen Town 6
Enniskillen Town extended their winning run to ten games as they fired six goals past Dergview Reserves.
Frank Wallace grabbed a hat-trick and Cathal Beacom netted twice as Town dominated the second half to stay 11 points clear of Tummery Athletic at the top of Division One.
Town joint manager Rory Judge was delighted with his side’s performance, and felt they were deserving winners.
“It was an excellent performance from us,” he said.
“I thought we were brilliant and brought it from the first minute. It was a high quality performance all over the pitch.
“They were up for it too and it was a very good game for an hour, and they did cause us trouble too.
“It was two teams that were trying to play football on the deck and a good crowd and everyone should have enjoyed it.
“You couldn’t take you eyes off it. Once we got to 3-1 they had to push a bit more and we were utterly ruthless when we got the chance to break on them. We were very clinical towards the end and two late goals put a good look on it.”
Fingertip save
Dergview went into the game in confident mood after reaching the final of the Irish Junior Cup in midweek, and they carved out a great chance in the early stages of the contest, but Cian Newmanproduced a fingertip save to deny Ivan Sproule.
It was the league leaders who made the first breakthrough when Wallace converted Jamal Tavares’ cross, but Dergview struck back midway through the half when Sproule pounced on a rebound after Newman had saved with his feet.
Town continued to press forward and Conall Quinn twice fired wide before Town restored their advantage three minutes before the half time whistle, Duwayne McManus setting up Cathal Beacom to score from eight yards out.
Early in the second half Tavares diverted the ball just wide of the post, but it was only a temporary reprieve for Dergview, with Wallace heading in Brendan Lilley’s cross at the far post.
Dergview were working hard to force their way back into the game but the Town defence held strong and Wallace completed his hat-trick after 72 minutes when he converted Kane Connor’s cross.
Tavares then won possession high up the pitch and set substitute Kane Connor through for his third goal of the season, and Beacom completed the scoring by curling a free kick around the wall and into the corner of the net.
The victory maintains Town’s advantage at the top of the league table at 11 points, although Tummery have three games in hand as the season reaches the business end of matters.
