A number of members of staff at St Joseph’s College will take part in the Belfast Marathon this weekend to raise much needed funds for the Air Ambulance (NI). Niall Lunny will run the entire marathon, while a team relay consisting of Ann Carrigan, Ciaran Lappin, Vania Luchessi, Ryan McCormick and Anita Kehoe will each complete a leg of the gruelling 26.2 mile run.
Speaking to the Impartial Reporter, Ann Carrigan set out the reasons for doing the run; “Ultimately it’s to raise money for a charity which unfortunately here in Fermanagh, we are seeing the necessity of having. Air Ambulance are a charity and receive no government funding, so every pound helps as we pound the roads around Belfast.
“The team of runners at St Josephs have been great, really getting stuck into their training as well as holding non-uniform day, a bake sale and an Easter raffle to raise money.
It costs £5500 per day to keep the Air Ambulance running, so we’d be hoping that our efforts could help at least one person.”
