Devenish 0-09 Teemore 1-07
Teemore will sit top of Division Two as they take three points Club Players’ Competition into the Senior League thanks to a one point victory over Devenish.
Both sides will have strong aspirations of returning to Division One, but it is Teemore with the initial advantage with Devenish behind them with two other teams on two points.
In a game where chances were wasteful, an early goal for Teemore was enough for them to see the game out.
“It was a good battle,” said Teemore manager, Tony Collins. “It was two well matched teams to be fair and I suppose the scoreline showed that in some ways.
“Look, to be fair, both teams were very wasteful and it was the team with the least mistakes won and that was us.
“We have finished the Club Players’ off well and it was a good league to build on,” added Collins who knows the extra points could come in handy at the business end of the league: “Any point counts and it definitely sets us up nicely but there is a lot of football to be played between now and then.”
Devenish will be disappointed in a return of nine points from 32 shots over the hour but they did lead by a point at half-time.
A foul by Malachy O’Flanagan gave Eoin McManus the chance to convert a penalty and with a point from play alongside a Jason McCaffrey point it put Teemore in a good position.
However, points from Cian O’Brien (3), Joe O’Brien and Jamie Flanagan (2) left it 0-06 to 1-02 at the break in Devenish’s favour.
The second half saw Teemore outscore Devenish by five points to three.
Oisin Murphy was on target before McManus hit three in a row.
However, Devenish came back again and with two points from Jason Love and a single from Barry Mulrone it was level going into the closing stages.
It was to be Teemore who would snatch the winner with practically the last kick of the game to give his side the slenderest of victories.
