On Tuesday June 6 Enniskillen Cricket Club hosted their local Kwik cricket tournament. The event was held for the first time at their home ground at Erne Integrated College and featured 10 teams involving some 120 children from local primary schools.

The day itself was a beautiful warm early summer day with continuous sunshine and made for a remarkable sight when the games were being played.

Teams taking place were Aghadrumsee PS, Enniskillen Model PS, Enniskillen Integrated PS, Fivemiletown PS, Jones Memorial PS, Lisbellaw PS, Maguiresbridge PS (A and B), Moat PS and QEII PS Kilskeery.

After some very competitive first round matches and quarter finals the semi final lineup featured Maguiresbridge A v Moat and QEII Kilskeery v Maguiresbridge B.

In the first semi final Maguiresbridge got the better of the Moat by 56 runs and Maguiresbridge B beat Kilskeery by 40 runs leaving it an all ‘Bridge final.

In the final the A team ran out winners by 42 runs but the B team pushed them all the way with the standard of batting, bowling and fielding on show being of the highest calibre.

Tournament organiser Kenny Maxwell was fulsome in his praise for all the skills on show for all teams and thanked the Erne Integrated College for use of their facilities.

He said “It was a fantastic day made by the weather and the degree of skill and enthusiasm from all the children was at times frankly amazing to watch. A big thanks to all the schools involved for taking part and to their teachers and staff for running these programmes during school so that they can prepare for the event. My heartfelt thanks to all my ECC colleagues who gave of their time to help prepare and then administer the event and make it so successful.

“Youth is very much on our radar in our club as these kids will hopefully be playing for ECC in the not too distant future. We have been extremely busy with our senior team in the North West league 4 this year but haven’t forgotten about the kids and intend to run events during the summer months specifically for them.

“Thanks also to Erne Integrated College for being so accommodating and making us feel very welcome.

“Finally congratulations to Maguiresbridge for retaining the Cadden Cup, they played some exceptional cricket during the tournament and hit three scores of over 300 in their four matches which I’ve never seen before.”
