On Sunday Enniskillen Cricket Club continued their campaign in League Four of the North West Union with a trip to Newbuildings. It was to prove another fruitful away encounter as they prevailed by the margin of six wickets to keep their impressive run going having now chalked up four in a row.

It was a fine day with intermittent sunshine but with the threat of thunderstorms forecast for later on in the day and no doubt with this in mind Newbuildings elected to bat having won the toss.

Initially Enniskillen kept the home team in check and early wickets had them at 45/4 - two big moments being the amazing one handed catch from Darshan Nair to get rid of one of the openers and then Kenny Maxwell had the Newbuildings dangerman Sam McClintock stumped smartly by stand in keeper Aby Theckanath while he was still in single figures.

But credit to the Newbuildings batsmen that they pushed the score up to 155 before they were dismissed in the 26th over. All the bowlers took wickets with Paul Ramsay’s 3/29 the best figures backed up by two each from Maxwell and Nair and Satheesh and Bibin Matthew taking a wicket apiece.

However there were several dropped chances and miss-fields which wasn’t evident in the match against Letterkenny the previous week and Newbuildings perhaps got 20/30 runs more than they should have.

After the tea interval and with the thunder clouds looming Aby Theckanath and David Cadden opened the batting with a vociferous home support urging their team on.

However they were soon silenced by an opening stand of 101 by Theckanath and Cadden in only 11 overs. Theckanath was particularly brutal against anything short or wide making another half century (67) and Cadden was the perfect foil for him with his 27 and the two merely took the game away from the opposition.

Despite losing a couple of cheap wickets Bibin Matthew and Darshan Nair saw the team home with an unbroken stand of 30 to win by six wickets with seven overs to spare and in the process giving the team their fourth win on the bounce.

It was another great performance by the town team who now sit in the top six in the league a remarkable turnaround from four weeks ago when they sat bottom of the table.

The team have a home match against Ardmore 3s next Sunday and this will be a real test of where they are in their development as Ardmore were league winners last year but no doubt they will give it their all at their home ground.
