Maguiresbridge 2-4 Roslea 0-21
Roslea strolled to an 11-point victory in the Division Two opener in Maguiresbridge last Wednesday night.
Sean Quigley was on fine form as he helped himself to 14 points on his return to club football following Fermanagh’s exit from the Tailteann Cup.
Ciaran Murphy was pleased to see his side open the campaign with a win last week.
“We had a good first-half performance against a full outfit; we probably weren’t as good against 13 men in the second half, and we gave away a couple of slack goals, so that is something to work on.
“However, we controlled most of the game, which we were happy about in the end,” he commented.
Quigley was a handful from the get-go at Páirc na hÓige as he kicked the opening three scores of the game, with one coming from a free kick.
Niall Clerkin kicked a right-footed score before Ciaran Corrigan opened the scoring for the home side when he kicked a long-range score after some patient build-up play.
Niall Cosgrove (2), Shane Rooney and Quigley all added scores for the visitors as Sean Corrigan split the posts at the other end.
The ’Bridge were reduced to 14 men five minutes before the half-time whistle when Diarmuid Russell saw red after receiving a Yellow and a Black Card.
The sides traded scores at the start of the second half with Clerkin scoring before Mark Hughes responded with a right-footed free kick.
The ’Bridge went down to 13 men a few minutes into the half as Mark Gavin was shown a Black Card, Sean Quigley picked up from where he left off in the first half with a couple of well-executed free kicks.
Adrian Diver’s side found their first goal as Ryan Hyde caught a second kick-out in a row and drove up the field before releasing the pace of Ciaran Corrigan, who fisted the ball across goal for Sean Corrigan, who cut back across the keeper and finished into an open net.
Shane Lynch and Quigley added scores before ’Bridge substitute JP Trimble was also shown a Black Card, ten minutes from time.
Mark Hughes converted another free kick before Ciaran Corrigan fired home a near post shot into the net on the whistle as Roslea ran out deserved winners.
Maguiresbridge face Coa next while the Shamrocks play Brookeborough, with manager Murphy adding: “We beat Brookeborough well the first time round in the Club Player’s Competition, so we will be expecting a response from them, but again we are looking forward to the challenge.”
