Fermanagh swimming sensation, Ellie McCartney, has been selected to represent her country at the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Ellie’s outstanding performances in April have secured her consideration times for the seventh edition of the prestigious event, which will take place in August 2023. She achieved impressive times in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, as well as the 200m Individual Medley.
The Commonwealth Youth Games, organised by the Commonwealth Games Federation, is an internationally recognised multi-sport event that showcases the talents of young athletes from across the Commonwealth. Ellie McCartney has earned her place among 15 exceptional athletes representing Northern Ireland.
Currently a member of the Swim Ireland Performance Transition Squad, Ellie trains under the guidance of Head Coach Kevin Anderson at the National Centre Ulster base, located at the renowned 50m Aurora Pool in Bangor.
Her hard work and dedication have undoubtedly contributed to her remarkable progress in the sport.
Ellie, who recently completed her A Level examinations at Glenlola Collegiate in Bangor, has dominated her Breaststroke and Individual Medley events at recent meets in Bangor and the South Lakes Centre.
Her outstanding performances have showcased her potential and positioned her as one of the brightest prospects in swimming.
As she trains tirelessly for the upcoming LEN European Junior Championships in Belgrade next week, Ellie is determined to build upon her success. In the previous year, she reached the semi-finals, and her aspirations to progress further in 2023 are high.
