Teemore 1-08 Devenish 1-12
Devenish opened up a three-point lead at the top of Division Two with a win over Teemore as the top two sides went head-to-head on Friday evening.
The win sees Teemore drop down to fourth behind Roslea and Tempo who both recorded wins last week.
A strong first-half performance saw the Garrison side take a five-point advantage in at half time with Teemore unable to claw back the deficit. Joint manager Marty O’Brien was pleased to see his side continue their form ahead of tomorrow’s clash with third-placed Tempo.
“We played very well in the first half and that really was the difference, we showed great control and were very clinical up front.
“It was a very tight second half, we knew Teemore would have to come at us because of the lead we had built up and they did and caused us problems with their running game.
“Fortunately, we did well on the break and stayed the course well when the pressure was on. So, we’d be happy with that aspect and the win in general, Teemore is a very tough place to get points and with the league positioning, it was all the more pleasing.
“There’s no let-up now with Tempo this week so we’ll have to try and get ourselves up to those levels again and push on until the end of the season now and try to keep ourselves in top spot.”
First-half points from Fionan O’Brien, Jamie Flanagan (3) and Joe O’Brien (2) saw the away side make use of the wind at St Mary’s Park with Teemore registering scores from Eoin McManus and Oisin Murphy.
Teemore came back into in the second half with points from McManus, Murphy, Aaron Lee, Paul Doherty and substitute Colm McNally who marked his return from injury with a point.
Damian Lee’s goal was cancelled out at the other end after Tom Treacy’s long kick-out was misjudged by two Teemore players that allowed Joe O’Brien to make a long run before fisting it over the Teemore goalkeeper for Jamie Flanagan to flick the ball into the net to add to Barry Mulrone and Fionan O’Brien’s points. Teemore manager Tony Collins said after the game: “There was little between the two sides, they played very well in the first half and got the lead ahead of us, they used the wind to their advantage.” Teemore will look to bounce back with a win as they take on Roslea tomorrow with Collins adding: “It’s an important game for both teams, neither side can afford slip-ups, so we are expecting a tough encounter.”
