Derrygonnelly 5-21 St Patrick's 0-08
Derrygonnelly Harps booked their place in the Division One league final with two games to spare, and in doing so confirmed St Pat’s relegation to Division Two with a comprehensive victory over the Donagh side last Friday night.
Derrygonnelly have shown their intent from the outset of the league and this latest win was their seventh on the bounce to ensure that they will contest the league decider.
Derrygonnelly joint manager, Paul Greene, said: “We’re happy to get another win under our belts but we know St Patricks we’re missing a number of important players.
“We have another tough game against Enniskillen this Friday and we will continue to work hard on the training field for this.”
For St Pat’s though it has been the polar opposite with seven defeats out of seven sealing their fate.
Their focus will now be on getting ready for the championship and trying to make an impact in that.
The Harps dictated matters from the outset on Friday night and by the break they had the points in the bag as they opened up a 2-13 to 0-04 lead.
Garry McKenna and Aidan McKenna netted the goals for the home side in the game while Garry McKenna, Ryan Jones - who finished with five points from play - Leigh Jones and Stephen Gilroy were all among the points for Derrygonelly as they opened up a sizeable cushion by the interval.
St Pat’s had landed the first point of the game through JP O’Reilly while Pat Grue and Michael Montgomery also chipped in with points in the first half.
The game continued in the same vein in the second half as Derrygonnelly bagged a further three goals.
Stephen McGullion, who is making a welcome return from injury, palmed in their third goal at the back post, Bryan McKenna netted goal number four while Rian McGovern produced a good low finish for the fifth Harps goal.
Montgomery and Shay Cadden did knock over points for St Pat’s in the second half but with Rory Joe Duffy, Paddy Duffy, Garry McKenna and Ryan Jones registering at the other end the home side ran out commanding winners.
This Friday night Derrygonnelly are at home to Enniskillen while St Pat’s make the trip to Ederney.
