Kinawley manager Dom Corrigan admits that disappointment was their initial feeling following Sunday’s Division One final loss to Derrygonnelly after extra time but overall he believes that the game will be very beneficial to his players moving into the championship.
The Borus more than held their own for long periods but it was Derrygonnelly who eventually pushed on in the second extra time periods to seal the victory.
“I thought maybe at the end of the first period of extra time we could have pushed on and it was disappointing not to have got across the line but fair play to Derrygonnelly, they came very strong at the finish and they took the honours,” said Corrigan.
‘Plenty of learnings’
“There are plenty of positives and plenty of learnings though to come out of it and that game will certainly stand to help us moving into our championship preparations.
“We will reset now and go again and we’ll look forward to our meeting with Devenish. I watched them on Sunday and was impressed by them and that is our sole focus now, to get ourselves ready for Devenish,” said Corrigan, who will assess a number of injury concerns in the week ahead.
“We have a few players carrying knocks and we will have to see what the lay of the land is on the injury front over this coming weekend and certainly the depth of the squad will be tested over these championship games.”
And he believes that the league as a whole has been a positive experience for his side.
“I was very pleased with the way the league worked out for us.
“Going into the league I would have to say that with so many players absent I was tentative about it and how it would work out but we ground out results and got a lot of new players integrated into the Senior team so that was very important.
“Getting to the league final was a great experience for them, to play in Brewster Park in front of a big crowd in a final will only bring them on. As I said, it was disappointing not to get across the line in the final but overall the league will be positive for the group driving into the championship,” concluded Corrigan.
