ERNE Gaels manager Seamus Ryder was delighted with his side’s performance as they accounted for Belnaleck with a strong display in Belleek on Sunday.
The home side bagged an early goal through Martin Gilfeddar and never looked back after that as they eventually ran out 3-13 to 0-09 winners.
“The performance was excellent. After we got the goal up we controlled the game excellently in all facets; kickouts, score-taking, defending, everything was top notch, so we are delighted.
“It is good to have two points going now to Roslea this week as they will be formidable at home,” said Ryder.
And the Erne Gaels boss knows that they will face a stern examination on Saturday evening against the Shamrocks, who pushed Derrygonnelly all the way last week.
“I was at the first half of their game against Derrygonnelly and they were very good. Going up there, they are a proud club. They have the Quigleys and we will have to plan for them.
“It will be noisy up there with the crowd in on top of you but we are looking forward to it, it is a proper championship game and a proper championship venue,” stated Ryder.
While Erne Gaels impressed, it was a disappointing day for the Art McMurroughs which assistant manager Daniel Kille acknowledged.
“We were extremely disappointed with our performance, so many aspects of our game were at a very low level.
“We made life easy for Belleek numerous times and they took full advantage of that weakness in our play.
“They are in a good place, but I can assure you this performance is not a true reflection of this group,” he said.
And he says that they will be seeking a big improvement ahead of another massive game this Sunday when they host Derrygonnelly.
“We have a short turnaround to right so many wrongs and to look for a big improvement in the coming week on the training pitch and on the field of play this coming Sunday.
“We couldn’t have a tougher game facing us in Derrygonnelly who are league champions and many people’s favourites to lift this year’s championship title.
“In saying that these are the games you should relish as a team and we will do all we can to be ready to go to battle against a top-quality side,” he concluded.
