Maguiresbridge suffered a third league defeat on the bounce as they were defeated 6-1 by Mountjoy United last Saturday afternoon.
Mountjoy took the lead midway through the first half, and it was all one-sided from there as Maguiresbridge took another heavy defeat following their 9-0 loss to rivals Lisnaskea Rovers before Christmas.
Michael Reid bagged a hat-trick while Mark Sharkey was also on target and Tim Gallagher added a late brace to seal a convincing win for United.
Maguiresbridge remain rooted to the bottom of the Division Two table with just four points after 12 games.
‘Bridge manager Simon McCusker said a lack of fitness played to his side’s detriment at Lisnagirr Road.
It was a cagey opening for both sides without any real clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes but eventually the home side were able to get on top in midfield and Michael Reid opened the scoring around 25 minutes in with a well-timed finish to make it 1-0 and relieve any home supporters’ nerves.
Lightning struck twice in six minutes as Reid once again found himself through on goal and he applied another cool finish to double the host’s advantage.
The ‘Bridge reacted well to the second goal and came close to pulling one back before they did find the net before the break as left-back Glenn Murphy halved the deficit to make it 2-1.
After another close opening to the half, Mountjoy eventually pulled away as Reid completed his hat-trick on the hour mark to make it 3-1.
The Omagh side managed to take control in the centre of the park, following the third goal, with Marc Davis a standout performer in midfield throughout with the ‘Bridge struggling to keep up.
Reid’s strike partner Gallagher put the game beyond doubt with a fourth goal and new signing Sharkey volleyed home a fifth after a ball to the back post.
Gallagher finished off the scoring in injury time to round the game off.
The ‘Bridge will be desperate to pick up points at home to second-placed Ardstraw.
