Enniskillen Galaxy and Dunbreen Rovers played out a 1-1 draw in Division Three at the weekend.
A Galaxy own goal was cancelled out by Barry McCann’s strike on the stroke of half time as both sides had to settle for a point at the Bawnacre Centre.
The draw leaves Dunbreen third from bottom with just three wins from 11 games so far while Daniel McIntyre’s Galaxy side are fourth in the table and still hold ambitions of promotion to Division Two.
“I think based on the second half, we done more than enough to win the game,” McIntyre said after the game.
“I felt we dominated large parts of the game. The second goal just didn’t come our way, a combination of bad luck with hitting the woodwork four times and some poor finishing, without being too harsh on the lads.
“That needs to improve as we’re in the crunch stage of the season. My one regret from the game would be I felt we didn’t get going until midway through the first half.
“I felt there was a 25-minute spell where we could have done a bit more, particularly in the final third as we weren’t really troubled.
“We are still very much in the hunt. We won’t be giving up. We just have to keep plugging away with the rest of the remaining games, there’s a lot of football still to be played and the boys have to keep their heads up.”
After a passive start Galaxy eventually began to create chances against Dunbreen’s defensive line.
Eamon McCaffrey had an effort saved by Dunbreen goalkeeper Aaron McCrory and Haydn Love also came close with a low strike but it crept just past the post and wide.
Gavin McGinn was inches away from opening the scoring but his effort from an angle cannoned back off the post.
Against the run of play, Rovers won a corner and the ball into the box was missed by Galaxy’s goalkeeper and it bounced off Robbie Regan and flew into the goal to make it 1-0 to Dunbreen.
However, the lead only lasted a handful of minutes as Galaxy responded well.
Love picked up the ball and slalomed through a couple of bodies before being brought down by a Dunbreen defender.
Barry McCann despatched the penalty kick as he found the bottom left corner.
A one-sided second half came to no avail for Galaxy as they dominated from start to finish.
Michael Dooris hit the crossbar and McCann also hit the post while Regan had a goal ruled out for offside in stoppage time.
