There was some high quality performances by local athletes at the E District Cross Country Championships at Necarne last Thursday.
Kate Kelly, Megan Mullally and Annabel Morrison all impressed in the girls races while in the boys section Piaras Toner, Jack Donnelly and Harry McKenzie all caught the eye.
And in the team events it was a good day for St Michael’s who won four of the five titles on offer while Mount Lourdes also claimed three team victories.
In the Girls section, Annabel Morrison of Enniskillen Royal (ERGS) had 12 seconds to spare as she took gold in the Senior race with Aoibhin Kelly of Mount Lourdes third and Elisha Gallagher of ERGS fifth.
The Intermediate Girls race was dominated by Tyrone schools but there was 20 top finishes for ERGS duo Ellie Dunlop and Isobella Wright.
Annabelle McKenzie clinched third place in the Junior Girls race with Eden Davis (Fivemiletown College) in sixth and Orlagh Kelly of Mount Lourdes in fourth. With Ava Hennessey (9th), Maille Hennessey (10th) and Isabelle Murphy Sicilia (11th) also finishing high up the field it took Mount Lourdes to the team gold.
Mount Lourdes also took team gold in the Minor Girls. They were led home by winner Megan Mullally with Naoisa McKenna third. Eve Cox of Erne Integrated came home in fourth place while Jessica Largo Elis (St Mary’s Irvinestown) in fifth.
St Fanchea’s took bronze in the team race with Caodhla Stroud leading the way for them in 11th.
Kate Kelly of Mount Lourdes produced a very impressive run as she stormed to gold in the Mini Girls with Fivemiletown’s Amelia Davis second. Meabh Donnelly, Lucy Gallagher, Mia Greene and Muireann Cassidy all finished inside the top ten as Mount Lourdes took team gold.
In the Senior Boys Frank Buchanan led home an all St Michael’s top four ahead of Jamie McDonnell, Charlie Reihill and Ben Warnock as they took team gold.
Patrick Williams and Eamon Greene were inside the top ten for ERGS who took team silver.
A hugely impressive run by Harry McKenzie of ERGS saw him ease to gold in the Intermediate boys race. This was all the more impressive given the quality of the field, the top six all internationals including St Michael’s pair Sean Corry (fifth) and Tiarnan McManus (sixth). St Michael’s took team gold with ERGS bagging silver.
In the Junior Boys it was again team gold for St Michael’s as they claimed a one-two with Jack Donnelly first and Nathan Coyle second.
The Minor Boys race saw Piaras Toner take top spot for St Michael’s who had six in the top 11 including Daniel Hoy and Darragh Boyle as they took team gold. Luca Hall of ERGS also enjoyed a good race as he finished fourth.
And St Michael’s took team silver in the Minor Boys with Bradley Baxter, Mikey McGivern, Sean Lunny and Caiden Lindsay inside the top ten.
