Some team is going to get quite a hammering whenever Fermanagh senior hurlers start converting the large number of chances they are creating.
That is the firm view of team boss Joe Baldwin as his side locks horns with last year’s beaten Lory Meagher finalists from Lancashire.
And if the Ernesiders prevail, as expected and Leitrim beat Longford then Fermanagh will be clean through to the Division 3B final.
Lancashire just lost out to winners Monaghan by 3-23 to 3-20 in a cracking final so Baldwin and Co. will be wary of the threat the visitors will pose in Brewster Park next Saturday at 2pm.
Fermanagh beat Warwickshire pretty convincingly last time out on a score of 1-19 to 2-05.
But they also hit 18 wides something Baldwin is aware of but an issue that does not unduly disturb him.
“Believe it or not we have actually done a lot of work on shooting this year," he said.
“We do a lot of work at training, but maybe we need to do it in more of a game mode under more pressure.
“But a lot of the wides last time were from a wrong shot selection.
“We scored 1-19 but we had 18 wides and two dropped into the keeper’s hands and that is 41 chances created in the game.
“So, the day that we do find our real accuracy, somebody is going to get an awful hiding.
“It does not really concern me as we just had an off day.”
On the plus side, Fermanagh welcomed back the gifted Sean Corrigan who will certainly strengthen their scoring department and Brian Teehan, Dannan McKeogh and Aidan Flanagan are all at various stages of recovery.
“Danann McKeogh is the nearest to making a comeback and we will assess Brian during the week.
“If you look at some of our previous games, Brian and Danann were quite prolific, so we have serious scoring power to come off the bench.
“And of course, Sean Corrigan is also back which adds to that considerable capacity, and he hit two points in a few minutes and I think we had 10 different scorers last week.
“Francie McBrien will not feature in the league at all but we hope to have him back for the Lory Meagher Cup and he is a serious scorer also, but he has a problem with his lower back.
“Aidan Flanagan is training very well but is not quite match fit, but we would be hoping to get him on the field before the end of the League.”
Baldwin is pretty well aware of opponents Lancashire whom he feels were unlucky not to beat Monaghan in last year’s Lory Meagher Cup final.
“I felt they could have won it even though it was a very good Monaghan so they could be quite a test for us.
“We will look at the video of that match and we have a real professional set up this year.”
Robin Spencer and Conor Madden are prolific scorers for the exiles hitting a total of 1-13.
Shane Madden is another prominent performer for the visitors.
“We will give them every respect but will be hoping for a home win.
“And mathematically, if we win next Saturday and Leitrim beat Longford then we will be through to the league final but we will have to focus on Lancashire first and you never really know who they will have playing with them.
“They usually are a big strong physical side so we will have to prepare for that challenge as well."
Fermanagh look to be the stronger side and with forwards Luca McCusker, John Duffy, Jimmy Tormey, Tom Keenan, Tommy Duane, Sean Corrigan and Ben Corrigan they should have the firepower to get those two precious points and take another step to the final.
