Fermanagh hurling boss Joe Baldwin has hit out at GAA authorities over their failure to have a venue chosen for the NHL Division 3B final against Warwickshire.
The final has been pencilled in for Easter Saturday or Sunday but as of tonight, Sunday, Fermanagh still did not know when the game would be played.
He added it was especially galling as all the football counties had all the details of their league finals next weekend.
Speaking to The Impartial Reporter, Baldwin said: “I am sitting talking to you on Sunday night and I have come back from being away from home for eight hours and I still do not know when or where it will be played.
“All the other football fixtures are out and they all know when they are being played and they know they are being played in Croke Park.
“We all talk about hurling being promoted but here we are six or seven days before a NHL final and we still don’t know when it is going to be played and it is simply not good enough.
“I don’t think it will be in Croke Park but I have heard that it will be a home venue for Fermanagh but Brewster Park was not in great shape the last day and we have had a lot of rain so we may have to look at an alternative venue.”
If that is the case, then the excellent St Joseph’s of Ederney might be an alternative venue.
“But these are things that we should know so that we can plan our week.
“We put so much into this and the Fermanagh players and management deserve much better from the GAA.
“It is simply not good enough.
“We were able to organize a challenge game with Roscommon in a neutral venue in Tubercurry with a neutral referee and we can do it at three or four day's notice.
“We have qualified for a final and surely to God we should know when we are playing our finals like the footballers.
“I want the GAA to be accountable for this.
“We don’t have an Ulster senior championship and we are six days out and we still don’t know if it will be Easter Saturday or Easter Sunday.
“The GAA needs to take a good look at this and Warwickshire are in the same situation.
“In terms of the planning that is going into this I think we deserve a lot more respect than we are getting from the GAA.
“Again in it is simply not good enough.”
