On Saturday night, April 13 Aghadrumsee Badminton Club celebrated 90 years of history.
With players from years gone by and current club players, the night saw almost 100 people come together to celebrate the club’s rich history in the Creighton Hotel, Clones.
Former players recounted times gone by and told stories about how the club had changed over the years.
A brief history of the club was given from its foundation in the 1930’s by Canon McComb, right up until the teams in the 2023/24 season.
There were photos of Aghadrumsee’s success in local and national leagues across the years and some memorabilia, including an old racket and press and cups donated to the old Churches League by former Aghadrumsee players. A massive thank you must go to all those who donated images and memorabilia to be displayed on the night.
Some trophies were then presented to players in attendance including the Niall Johnston Memorial Shield, the Bob Barnett Cup and the club’s newest addition, the Derek Murray Memorial Cup.
Speeches were given by current and former members on their memories of the club over the years.
It was fantastic to see the great community spirit that exists within the club, being able to pull all generations together, across 90 years to celebrate and enjoy a night dedicated to Aghadrumsee Badminton Club.
Aghadrumsee currently enjoys 12 teams across the Monaghan, Fermanagh and Ulster Leagues, a fantastic achievement from a small rural club.
Aghadrumsee Badminton club would like to give thanks to all the sponsors on the night, to the Creighton Hotel, Clones for a fantastic meal and to all those who came along to support this massive achievement by the club.
The badminton club prides itself on the family atmosphere it has and this was clear to see on Saturday night.
