Fermanagh 3-27 Warwickshire 0-08
Fabulous Fermanagh avenged the recent bitter defeat to Warwickshire in a superb clinical display that simply pulverised their opponents in Páirc na hEireann in Birmingham.
Veteran Sean Corrigan was the star of the show, hitting 1-07 from play as did marksman Danann McKeogh from frees in a game where four players were sent off.
Warwickshire lost Antrim ace Kevin McKernan to a straight red card after 20 minutes with Dan Lowry and Ciaran McCague getting lined in added time in the second half.
And Fermanagh lost sub John Paul McGarry to a straight red in injury time in a game that was largely without rancour.
But Warwickshire had no real answers to Fermanagh’s speed and accuracy on a big pitch.
The Ernesiders were quickly off the mark with Brian Teehan opening the scoring and the home side responded through Jack Grealish.
But it was Fermanagh who gained control and the points flowed from John Duffy, and McKeogh as Jordan Conway converted a free for Warwickshire.
McKeogh added further points and Teehan was also on target to leave Fermanagh leading by 0-06 to 0-02 midway through the first half.
Conway responded with a free but Duffy pointed before McKernan got sent off.
McKernan’s departure was a big loss to the home side as Ryan Bogue pointed for Fermanagh.
Warwickshire had a penalty to cut the deficit but Erne keeper Chris McKernan saved superbly from Conway who pointed in the 24th minute.
Fermanagh added four more points from the in-form Corrigan and Luca McCusker got another point to leave the Ernesiders leading by 0-13 to 0-05 at the break.
The home side could only score three more points in the second half as rampant Fermanagh underlined their superiority.
Conway had a point for Warwickshire on the resumption but Fermanagh got 1-04 in as many minutes from McKeogh, Tom Keenan (0-02), Sean Corrigan and a goal from Teehan to leave Fermanagh leading by 1-17 to 0-06 after 42 minutes.
Warwickshire got a second red card when their wing forward Dan Lowry was lined to add to their woes.
Grealish pointed from play but it was a token effort as Fermanagh piled on the scores with an unanswered 1-07 though two frees from the deadly accurate McKeogh who also found the net and Corrigan (0-02) to leave Fermanagh ahead by 2-22 to 0-07.
McGarry came on for Fermanagh and hit two points on the trot with another sub Jimmy Tormey pointing while Warwickshire’s final score came from Ciaran McKeague.
But Fermanagh rounded off a memorable day with another goal from Corrigan.
McKeogh then hit two frees with McCusker adding another point.
This was a most impressive win for Fermanagh who now play Lancashire in Brewster Park in a fortnight.
