Ederney 2-10 Enniskillen 0-09
Ederney had seven points to spare over Enniskillen Gaels in the first-round game of the Club Players’ Competition Division 1B.
Both sides were without their cohort of county players but it was the St. Joseph’s side who coped the better with a first-half goal from Paul McCusker putting them in firm control of the game.
Enniskillen’s plight was not helped as they lost two players to black cards in the first half, Ronan Beattie and Jack Tierney. While Ederney’s Enda Cassidy was also black-carded at the same time as Beattie.
The first half saw Ederney open up a six-point gap.
McCusker hit a point to go along with his goal while Shea Deazley, Luke Harron, a Chris Snow ’45, Lughaidh Donnelly and Pól McKevey were all on target.
For the Gaels, they had scores from Ryan McDonnell, Ben Kettyles and Paddy Reihill.
While Enniskillen’s scoring rate improved in the second half it was not to be enough as McKervey found the net for Ederney’s second goal of the game.
And with points from Cassidy, Shaun McCarron, Harron and Snow to go with it the Gaels could not bridge the gap with James O’Donnell and Reihill hitting the majority of their scores in the second period.
For Ederney boss, Chris Kelly, he was happy with what he saw from his side on their first day out: “Considering it was the first time we had that group of players together this year, we’d be content enough with some of what we did for the first run out of season.
“But obviously lots to work on going forward, as is to expected. Still, good to get a competitive game under the belts. Few lads making debuts too, so good to get them some experience at senior level.”
Enniskillen will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Devenish while Ederney have a free weekend.
