Kieran McKenna is reportedly in talks with Manchester United to take over as manager if Erik ten Hag leaves the club this summer.

United face Manchester City tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm in the FA Cup final at Wembley tomorrow but rumours suggest Ten Hag could be heading for the exit door regardless of the result after a disappointing season.

McKenna has also been linked with the Chelsea job in recent days following Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking this week.

Sky Sports is reporting that McKenna’s team of representatives have spoken to United about the chances of the Fermanagh man returning to the club as manager, having impressed with back-to-back promotions with Ipswich Town and sealing a return to the Premier League.

McKenna’s odds of a return to Old Trafford have dropped to 7/2 with Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi also in the mix.

The 38-year-old received the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy this week beating the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta to the award.

Speaking on speculation about joining other clubs, he said: "When you do well as a manager, or as a player there is always going to be speculation and I know what we have achieved is not an ordinary thing.

"So, of course, there is going to be speculation. But that's not where my focus is, to be honest, tonight.

"It's about you know what we have achieved last season, what we've achieved over the last couple of seasons. Not just myself but everyone at the football club and it's been a wonderful couple of years.”
