The stars were aligned for Enniskillen Royal Boat Club (ERBC) at the National Schools' Regatta at the weekend where over 5,000 rowers competed for honours on the Olympic rowing course in Eton Dorney.

This was the most successful trip in the last 20 years both for those crews who got medals and for some very good finishes in the Band C finals over three days.

On Friday the youngest rowers U14 rowed in octuples.

The girls came fourth in the B final which was 10th overall and overcame some big names in school rowing such as Headington from Oxford. The crew was made up of Flavia Remedios, Freya McNeary, Leah Topping, Clodagh Donaghy, Maeve Rolston-McAuliffe, Penny Huddlestone, Eva Fowler, Aimee Turner and Cox Ileana.

The boys crew of Harry Welsh, Evan Clarke, Edward Dawn, James McLeer, Oliver Krawczyk, Oliver Jennings, Joel Crean, Caelan Moore and cox Rachael Cathcart were third in the D final.

On Saturday the girls' J15 four won impressively over a big London school Godolphin and Latymer by a 6-second margin.

This crew of Brooke Davis Emily Black, Abbie McCarthy-Magwood, Tori Davis and cox Rachael Cathcart had been very impressive in training on the Erne and just replicated this on the Olympic course.

This crew was part of the winning J13 crew from last year at the regatta.

Amazingly a few minutes later the boys J16 four did the same thing by beating Windsor Boys' School the hard way having to come from behind. This crew also showed good form at home and were able to do it when it mattered in competition.

The crew of Austin Cassidy, Harry Coalter, Ryan Topping, Luke Bailey and cox Katelyn Fee were exhausted but had only one aim in mind.

The girls J16 four of Hannah Armstrong, Rhea Cartin-McCloskey, Naomi Robinson, Zara Welsh and cox Jessica Thompson had less form going into the event but the winter training stood to them and they got the silver medal behind Godolphin through sheer dogged rowing.

Other notable results were the J15 boys who won the B final making them 7th overall. On board were Cillian Donaghy, Matthew Montgomery, Joshua Inhat, Ollie Powell and cox Jacob Woods who gave an outstanding performance having had a less than settled build up.

There were C final wins for the girls J16 four and J15 four of Zara Lindsay, Mya Morris, Sienna Howe Erin Trimble and cox Rachel Cathcart.

The J15 crew was Amy Williamson, Aibhin Campbell, Grace Collins, Darcy Balfour and Milena Remedios.

The boys 16 eight were 11th overall having had a strong row in the time trial.

At J18 level there was an agonizing 4th place for the four of Hugo McChesney, George Kernoghan, William Bogle, Oliver Khew and cox Abbey Wilson.

On Sunday the weather turned wet and windy and lanes had to be reallocated to ensure there were no rogue results.

Ben Cameron and Jamie Dunlop rowed well to come second in the D final.

Towards the end of the regatta, ERBC had a remarkable row from the in-form pair of Acorn Cassidy and Isabella Wrightin the Championship Twos Girls who won the time trial majestically and then won the final in pretty poor conditions by doing what they learned on the bumpy waters of the Erne.

Rowing long strong strokes no other crew could match them and they crossed the line in a time of 7.46.28 with the raucous support at fever pitch beating Glasgow Rowing Academy, Sir William Perkin's School, Nottingham and Union Rowing Club, Tideway Scullers School and Monmouth Comprehensive School.

Even more impressive is the fact that Isabella is only 15 but the Junior 18 cup was theirs.

This was only the third time since 1948 that a Championship trophy came to these shores.
